The 1980s film industry was known for having a bevy of coming of age films, highlighted by members of the “Brat Pack”. Among the members of this mega-popular group was actress Demi Moore. Unlike many of her other Brat Pack co-stars, though, Moore was able to carry her A-list popularity into the next decade and beyond as one of the highest earners in Hollywood.

Moore had a strange childhood growing up after being born in Roswell, New Mexico in 1962. She would move around frequently as her mother and stepfather took different jobs repeatedly that kept Moore on the road. Eventually, she found her way to Hollywood where she dropped out of high school when she was 16 with the hopes of becoming a model.

Looking back on it, Moore said that “I always felt that if I ever was involved in what you would consider Hollywood, that I would be visiting, you know? I got to come and visit.” Moore didn’t think she’d be a star as she was very skinny and suffered from crosseyes that required multiple surgeries. She said that “I must have been so pitiful looking. A patch over one eye, blue cat-eye glasses, and I was so skinny. Pathetic.”

Interestingly enough, it was actually music where Moore made her first big splash as she was a songwriter in the early 1980s. This, along with her budding modeling career, landed Moore in a few small acting roles that included “Parasite” before she became a cast member on the soap opera “General Hospital”. Moore would finally become a mainstream star in 1985 when she led the way in “St. Elmo’s Fire” that ended up making a large profit at the box office. The rest of the decade would see Moore star in “About Last Night…”, “One Crazy Summer” and “The Seventh Sign”.

As if the 1980s weren’t fruitful enough for Moore, she found a way to become even more successful in the next decade. She started by starring in the smash hit film “Ghost” with Patrick Swayze, followed up by “A Few Good Men” and “Indecent Proposal”. All of a sudden, Moore was the biggest female star in Hollywood, which also meant huge money as she was getting paid eight figures.

About being paid more than any other actress, Moore wasn’t bothered that it’s all people were talking about. “I can certainly understand the fascination,” she said. “Plus, it’s perpetuated by the media. But I know what’s really important for me. As for the money, I’m so proud of the fact that it happened.”

Moore would have hits (“G.I. Jane”, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”) and misses (“Striptease”, “The Juror”) in the latter half of the decade, but the money was still pouring in. Even if it was a flop at the box office, Moore said that “Striptease” was one of her favorite films that she’s done so far. “It changed me. It changed my perception of me,” she said. “Like many people, I think I’m my own worst critic. And I think I take a lot out in an internally abusive way, looking at how I measure up, which was usually never enough,” but the film would change that.

After a busy decade, Moore took a step back in the new millennium to focus on family, focusing more on smaller roles that didn’t have the pressure of being carried by her stardom.

One aspect that people have always seemed to have a keen interest in when it comes to Moore is her love life. When she was just 17 years old, she married “It’s Not a Rumour” singer Freddy Moore, which is how she got her last name. While growing up, she had been Demi Guynes. Even though the couple divorced in 1984, she’s still used the Moore surname.

This has been true even throughout her later marriages. At one point, she was engaged to actor Emilio Estevez, but the couple broke up in 1986 before the wedding. The next year, she’d marry actor Bruce Willis, and the couple had three daughters together named Rumer, Scout and Tallulah. This relationship lasted much longer, as they separated in 1998 and divorced in 2000.

Then, of course, there was the relationship with Ashton Kutcher, the actor who’s 15 years younger than Moore. They were married in 2005 after two years of dating, and the marriage lasted until they split in late 2011 before finalizing their divorce in 2013. Recently, there have been reports that the actress has been involved with the 25 year old Nick Jonas. Needless to say, it seems she has a thing for the younger gentlemen.

Even though she’s in her late 50s, Moore is still getting plenty of work, appearing in four films in the last two years alone, including “Rough Night” in 2017. Fans of “Empire” are also very aware that Moore’s career is still in full swing, as she plays the mysterious Claudia. There are certain to be plenty more roles for Moore in the future, who has also shown an interest in getting behind the camera as a director. With a massive net worth of $150 million, she can pretty much do whatever she wants at this point.
