“I definitely believe in plastic surgery. I don't want to be an old hag. There's no fun in that.” Since making her silver screen debut in the 1994 film North, Scarlett Johansson has proven time and time again that she is a huge box office draw with over 50 projects to her name and dozens more on the horizon. But, before we dive into her successful career and her impressive paycheck, let’s take a look at her earlier years long before she ever achieved fortune and fame in Hollywood.

Born to a middle class family in New York City where her father worked as an architect and her mother, a self-proclaimed “film buff,” worked as a producer, Johansson was drawn to her mother’s star-studded career and expressed an early interest in the theater. With her mother taking her to auditions throughout the city, it wasn’t long before the nine-year-old Johansson landed her first part opposite John Ritter in the 1994 fantasy comedy North. Although the film was a huge flop at the box office, Johansson’s performance exceeded expectations and set her on the path to stardom.

Cast in minor roles over the next few years, Johansson’s luck continued to improve and, in 1998, she was cast in Robert Redford’s The Horse Whisperer, which earned her a Chicago Film Critics Association Award nomination for Most Promising Actress. From there, she made the transition to more adult roles in films like Lost In Translation before finding her niche in hits like The Black Dahlia, The Other Boleyn Girl and He’s Just Not That Into You. Along the way, she sealed her fate as one of Hollywood’s sex symbols and joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow for superhero blockbusters like Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Captain America and many more.

Currently the highest grossing actress of all time in the United States with her films bringing in over $3.3 billion at the box office, it’s no surprise that Johansson’s personal net worth exceeds $100 million with her earnings last year alone topping out at $35.5 million. And, while most of her fortune stems from her role as Black Widow, Johansson has certainly done her part beyond the silver screen to pad her net worth after dabbling in music, modeling, politics and activism over the last two decades.

Frequently gracing the top of “Sexiest Women Alive” lists from GQ and Esquire to Playboy, Johansson’s lucrative modeling career has undoubtedly added to her net worth and fame. In fact, film critic Anthony Lane of The New Yorker says that Johansson’s “sultriness” has greatly contributed to her success on the silver screen. With that being said, we can’t help but wonder what Johansson’s stunning beauty, Hollywood fame and $100 million net worth can actually buy since she already seems to have it all.

Well…a mansion or two, for starters! Located in the heart of Los Angeles and currently on the market for $5 million, Johansson purchased her first stunning home in 2007 for $7 million. Boasting 4,500 square feet with four bedrooms, a chef’s kitchen and walk-in wine cellar, the house includes a long list of amenities including a state-of-the-art gym, spa and an outdoor pool with a stunning hillside view.

Aside from her Los Angeles home, Johansson also owns a 3,000 square foot estate in Los Angeles’ prestigious Los Feliz community that she purchased a few years ago with her ex-husband, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds. This gorgeous home offers even more beauty with floor-to-ceiling windows and lux enmities including an outdoor bath, home gym and a giant master bedroom. To top it off, the house sits on half an acre of exquisite land with a walled garden, large deck and a saltwater swimming pool.

Obviously living the life of luxury when it comes to her homes, Johansson doesn’t have much interest in exotic cars and actually prefers to cruise around town in her modest Toyota Prius. According to her family and friends, this is par for the course for the 31-year-old Lucy star who is far from materialistic despite being considered one of the sexiest women in the world. Instead, she prefers to spend her fortune helping others and regularly endorses, promotes and donates her time and money to over 30 causes.

A true philanthropist who talks the talk and walks the walk, Johansson often takes the front line when it comes to helping those in need. Over the last decade, she has served as an Oxfam Ambassador, assisted victims of Hurricane Katrina, raised awareness of AIDS sufferers in Africa and donated thousands of pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls. Far more than just a pretty face and a sex symbol, Johansson is proof that superheroes do exist thanks to the kindness and compassion she frequently shows to others when the cameras aren’t rolling.

After the incredible success of Iron Man in 2008, Scarlett Johansson knew she wanted to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and went to great lengths to dye her hair red prior to auditioning for the part of Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow in Jon Favreau’s 2010 sequel, Iron Man 2. Winning the part, Johansson immediately started strength and stunt training to prepare for the role and made her grand debut as Black Widow in the 2010 film, which earned over $623.9 million at the box office amid widespread critical praise. The film’s success prompted Johansson’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018).

With each film, Johansson has seen her role expand and transition, especially in Avengers: Infinity War when Black Widow exchanged her signature red hair for blonde. “Directors Joe and Anthony Russo wanted us to kind of feel like it had just been a period of time and we were both sort of kind of under the radar, just different. I think that red hair is a signature of Natasha,” Johansson said of her new look. “They just wanted us to look different, and so for me, I thought, alright, well maybe I’ll give it a little wink and nod to the other widows’ kind of story that has been burned out.”

Fans embraced Black Widow’s new look in Avengers: Infinity War and have demanded a Black Widow movie, which Johansson admits isn’t entirely out of the question. “I love playing this character, and I think there is definitely an opportunity to explore the Widow as a woman who has kind of come into her own and is making independent and active choices for herself probably for once in her life,” Johansson says. “You know she hasn’t always had that possibility so if it fits that criteria, then yes I would want to do it.”

Avengers: Infinity War director Joe Russo agrees and is already toying with the idea of a Black Widow film. “There’s so much to explore with a character whose history was as a villain, and you know, Scarlett does such a good job of playing that character and people are so used to that character that you forget the character’s history, and so there’s a lot of compelling stories to tell about someone who has a dark past,” he says.”

As of now, Johansson is set to reprise her role as Black Widow in the untitled Avengers movie that will hit theaters in 2019. For Johansson, any opportunity to stay with the Marvel Universe is a gift since audiences are looking for more female super heroines like Black Widow. “They’re hungry for these stories, and they always want to see a more diverse group that better represents the population,” she says. “It’s wonderful to feel like you’ve witnessed and been a part of that growth.”
