“Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down…” Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Will Smith was only 16 years old when he partnered up with his childhood friend Jeffrey “DJ Jazzy Jeff” Townes to form the hip-hop duo known as DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Taking home his first Grammy in 1988 (also the first awarded in the Rap category), Smith was on the fast track to stardom as NBC sweetened the deal and offered the young star his own sitcom in 1990 called The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Since then, Smith has been praised as “the most powerful actor in Hollywood” and is known for dozens of blockbuster films.

Building an impressive $250 million net worth over the last three decades, Smith and his family—wife Jada Pinkett Smith, son Jaden and daughter Willow—live in a 25,000 square foot adobe-style mansion located on 150 acres in Calabasas, California. In fact, the sprawling manor is so remote that it even has its own zip code and looks more like a private resort getaway rather than a home since Will and Jada worked diligently to ensure the house was as natural as possible with handcrafted features that tie back to the land itself.

With 150 acres, the grounds of the Smith estate are absolutely spectacular and include a full size tennis court, a regulation basketball court and an oh-so-tempting manmade stone pool area complete with plenty of loungers for even the biggest pool parties. And, if that pool isn’t enough, there’s an additional covered pool and a gorgeous lake that takes up one entire side of the house featuring a quaint gazebo, which Will happily admits is his favorite spot on the entire property—and we can’t disagree!

Entering the mansion, guests pass through an enormous front door imported from northern India and step across a lavish cowhide rug that graces the entryway. Sparing no expense on details and décor to carry the natural design throughout the estate, the Smiths had the wrought iron staircase in the entrance hall hand-carved to resemble trees with interwoven and stretching branches, a pattern that continues along the upper balcony as well. Flanking the entry, a pair of large faux tusks and beautiful Moroccan lanterns tie in wonderfully with the exotic and natural theme.

One of the most used rooms in the house, the Smith’s living room offers plenty of spaces to relax with custom made lounge seating, Brazilian rosewood chairs from the 1960s and leather wingback chairs placed around a beige silk area rug. For added comfort, there’s even an oversized sofa with plenty of throw pillows that make this cozy spot a napper’s dream come true. Behind the sofa, two sky-high columns give the room an extremely elegant feel with even more lighting coming from the 1930s copper lantern that truly sets the tone of the room.

Moving throughout the rest of the house where rustic wood beams line the ceilings and reflect the gorgeous California landscape, the Smith’s kitchen and breakfast area offer majestic views of the lake and gazebo. For formal occasions, the Smith family and their guests dine at an oversized handcrafted table with walnut dining chairs situated over a stunning wool and silk area rug. Candelabras adorn the walls and a shimmering chandelier hangs overhead while additional and more private seating is located just behind the set of grand teak doors.

When it comes to entertainment, the Smith house certainly doesn’t disappoint with a billiards room featuring a custom designed pool table as well as a meditation room that is perfect for late night stargazing and relaxation under the large skylight. There’s even a recording studio filled with state-of-the-art equipment where Willow spends the majority of her free time while the rest of the family kicks back and relaxes in the private screening room where movie night is done right with soft plush club chairs, a cozy daybed and Moroccan lighting that sets the stage for a preview of Will’s latest epic film.

Managing to keep the romance alive after 19 years of marriage (a true accomplishment in Hollywood these days), Will and Jada’s master bedroom is everything a star couple needs with custom made furniture and a one-of-a-kind canopy bed made from small brass balls strung into long strings that drape over the top. The design is carried throughout the room from the lounge chairs to the novelty drum stool and the hand-knotted silk area rug. But, the luxury doesn’t stop there! The master bath has a jaw-dropping shower made entirely of pebbles as well as a door that opens to a private balcony where Will and Jada have bench-style seating and drum tables perfect for morning coffee and meditation.

And, as you might have guessed, Willow and Jaden’s rooms are just as amazing. Now 18 years old, Jaden relaxes in a rustic-inspired room that even has the same chair he used when he made his film debut alongside his dad in The Pursuit of Happyness in 2006. As for the 16-year-old Willow, her room is the epitome of a princess suite with a canopy of silk hanging from the ceiling, a super-sized walk-in closet and a circular bath that she shares with her older brother.

Needless to say, the Smiths love of a good party just as much as any Hollywood couple and often throw grand events at their California abode where visitors often remark that they need a map just to find their way around the 25,000 square-foot abode. Looks like “x” really does mark the spot at the Smith’s home.
